The A-A apartment was a compact and cozy apartment project that we wanted to define as an eclectic modern living space in order to reflect the character of the couple. The use of bold color, quirky patterns interlaced with simple forms is used to create a balanced composition for the apartment. Since it was a small apartment the challenge for the team was to come up with strategies to demarcate zones without using any solid elements. Thus, the living space uses elements like screen, change of floor pattern, change of wall color and, paneled walls to define each space whistle maintaining the integrity of the space and making it look spacious.
The bedroom has its own distinctive identity where the bedroom creates a contrasting relation with the attached bathroom. The vivid color palette of the bedroom aligned with the soft fluted details of the furniture is complimented through quirky tile patterns used in the bathroom. We worked with a soft and minimal approach for the study interior to maintain the hierarchy of the day bed in the space. The day bed has a fun presence in the room with quirky fingered headrest along with a bright yellow seat contrasted against the white grooved tv-unit and study table.
The living room comprises of kitchen, lounge and dining space, despite each having its unique character they seamlessly blend to create a cohesive atmosphere for the space. The kitchen is rendered through geometric tiles balanced with the crisp white background along with the added details of pebble shaped terrazzo knobs. The quirky patterned tile against the muted wooden floor was used to create the spatial periphery of the kitchen. The rattan screen with a bench is used as a dividing element between the lounge and the kitchen. The dichotomy of playful texture and muted surfaces creates an inviting aura for the lounge space. The textured fabric of the bench, hot pink carpet, photo collage on the back wall and the statement cushion piece ties the space into a composition that radiates positive energy. The dining space almost become a part of the entrance foyer though, we have used a continuous pink paint for the wall and ceiling to create a perceived boundary for the dining area.
Thus, the space concludes with certain common element tying the apartment into a fluent visual. The repetitive paneled oak wall used in dining, lounge and bedroom, synchronizes with textured surfaces explored through multiple medium like fabric, wall and floor tiles.
