Our most prolific project to date celebrates books, art and accessories from the world over. The myriad of books is displayed in two areas, one on the ground floor and the other on a state-of-the-art bookshelf, complete with a ladder and chez-lounge for easy-reading.
Downstairs, the drawing room boasts an eclectic vibe and displays the client’s art. Jewel tones and subtle hues coupled with unique prints make for a cheerful and vibrant space. The wooden floor and natural light streaming in from the large windows adds to that cheerful feel.
The foyer floor is adorned intentionally with a quaint patterned concrete tile reminiscent of a local courtroom. The white marble staircase and minimalist white railing complement the space by breaking from the busier surroundings. Adding an element of fun and quirkiness while playing with form is an oval table in indigo paired with mid-century chairs. Beside the dining area nestles a bookshelf housing family favourites and a shelving unit opposite for storage. Tastefully decorated on the wall are a collection of masks gathered from around the globe.
A wide variety of art, carefully chosen and placed by the owner, decorates the wall along the stairs and a beautiful bespoke bookshelf and reading area is set atop the landing with bedrooms on either side.
Both bedrooms were designed to echo the girls’ personalities. A’s bedroom has a retro feel with a four-poster bed and angled wallpaper to create drama. This was further enhanced by highlighting shapes and forms alongside the simple textiles and study desk. Z’s pink room is more dreamy and fantastical with a focus on curvilinear lines echoing a more feminine feel. The main feature here is the curved structures of the headboard and the terrazzo lights that hang atop the side tables.
The master bedroom on the ground floor is an epitome of mid-century modern which is exaggerated by the beautiful Zara Ibrahim desk. The starting point was the client’s bed which we then worked around. The textiles were kept simple and neutral to maintain a uniformity of style throughout. A woven leather bench, wooden panelling behind the headboard, the rocking chair and black wall sconces all come together to create clean lines, organic and streamlined forms quite in line with our own style at Mundist.
