Malik residence

Malik’s residence was our first project in Islamabad, situated on the foothills of Margala hills. Engulfed into the thick foliage of Islamabad the interior of the house resonates with the tranquility of the surrounding context. The collective palette of the residence is an appealing juxtaposition of earthy tones and textures contrasted against bright colors and eclectic patterns.
The drawing room on the ground floor detaches itself from a typical drawing room aesthetic yet keeps the sophistication entacted with the quirkiness. The muted hues of the sofa and, gold-detailed coffee table along with a sleek wooden and marble top bring a formal quality to the space. However, the fun printed carpet and cylindrical side table detail interlocked in this formal composition give a unique character to the space.
The double-height ground-floor living room was activated through a justified blend of colors, forms, and prints. The continuous dialogue between bold elements contrasted against muted surfaces gives this space a unique spatial quality. The muted surface of the sofa, with splashes of bright pink and orange cushions, is set along an orange-printed carpet. The hue of orange and teal green used in the TV console compliments the vibrant palette of the sitting area. The quirky and experimental form of the pebble-shaped mirror makes it a standout element of the living room.

The basement lounge has an abundance of earthy tones and muted surfaces, with a pop of quirky form and fun prints that elevate the character of the space. Within the sitting space, the kidney-shaped coffee table with spherical legs enjoys a visual hegemony over the soft tone of the sofa and tan chairs. The subdued presence of a TV console with minute circular details becomes a significant element that ties the central sitting space with a small sitting corner situated along the stairs. The circular language is repeated here with a circular rug and coffee table, contrasted against an accent chair and a yellow bench.

The art studio in the basement reflects a needed merger of maturity and fun, making it a part of the cohesive aesthetic of the houses yet being a kid-friendly space. The olive green table chairs enjoy a centralized position with a fun kidney-shaped desk at the corner. The conscious groove detail and partial use of olive green on the shelf make it visually coherent with the studio space. The corner art wall enjoys a distinct identity with a dull sofa providing the artwork with a required hierarchy.

The conscious play of color, form, and texture has created a unique quality for each space within the residence. Despite that a cohesive identity for the space is curated through an earthy color palette and textures, that is closely associated with the nature and foliage in the context.
