The O-S Residence was designed by Najmi Bilgrami Collaborative, it arrived to our team as a blank canvas which we had painted with bright colors, fun forms and quirky art pieces in order to reflect the lifestyle of the young couple and their two kids. The clients requested the space to radiate the playful and energetic character of their family, thus these became the key elements for the team to root the project. The foyer space and the followed lounge space are strategically designed to compliment each other, the muted hues of the foyer are juxtaposed against the bright play of colors in the lounge. The console in the foyer space, uses muted tones of grey and white to enhance the groove details and customized handles originating from these grooves. The circular mirror with the black frame and the gold and black art pieces are used to stitch together the composition. The play of solid colors; red, yellow and blue, with black polished metal details is used in the lounge space to create an exciting visual for the space. The side table and the coffee table act as the neutral elements for the space that ties the contrasting colors of sofa and console together. The basement entertainment space is interlaced with two voids on either side. An L-shaped void which was turned into a kids play area and a small light well on the other side. The distinctive identity of each zone made it a challenge for the team to create a fluid connectivity between them. The earthen color palette dominated the entertainment area, the intertwined play of green and mustard in the siting space composed with a white polished tv unit and ochre stools.The teal green coffee table uses concentric circles and a pie shape to give it a unique form. The small L-shaped play area was designed in three dimensionality to create a cohesive composition, with a pop of colors and earthy wooden textures. The massive teal green climbing wall has a certain hierarchy in the space. The light well on the other side has a distinctive architectural significance since it keeps the basement lit through out the day. A raw wooden bench against the wall feature; a composition of overlapped circles with planters, was used to activate this space, the bright green plants connected the space with the earthy hues of entertainment space. The muted aura of the basement is uplifted by the play of platonic forms and fun art pieces. Thus, the space crafts a bold statement, with solid colors, play of different geometry, complimented by quirky accessories.
