Architectural renovation conducted by Coalesce design studio has transformed the spatial character of the Terrace house. With larger windows and glass facades, the spaces invite the landscape into the living space creating a soothing aura for the house. Respecting the architectural expression the interior of the house focuses on using earthy tones.
We had an opportunity to work with different spaces within the house, connecting each space to the surrounding landscape but, still maintaining its distinctive identity.
Mother’s bedroom and en-suite radiate simplicity and sophistication through layout, conscious selection of hues, and minimalistic detailing. The layout was organized to avoid unnecessary clutter and to maintain the elegance of the space. However, the play of color contributed to activating the space the green polished wood with rattan detail dressing against the dusty pink headboard of the bed gives a sense of homely warmth with a hint of femininity.
The main lounging space of the house has a pre-existing statement feature; a staircase designed by Coalesce. The challenge for us was to create a new dynamic for the space that celebrates the presence of the architectural feature while contributing to the comfort of the user. The use of clients’ old furniture such as mid-century chair ignites nostalgia, weaved in with the splash of color giving the space a distinctive identity, that is old school yet energetic.
The ground floor culminates with a study room; a glass box diffusing into the surrounding landscape. The architectural intent was respected during the interior intervention by synchronizing the space with the exterior vegetation. The coffee table anchor the sitting space with its playful form and careful metal detailing.
The upstairs living room concluded the mid-century aesthetic with the merger of subdued tones, groove details, ratan texture, and metallic finishes. The architecture of the space with a wooden gabled ceiling and larger window provides the just-needed framework to curate a homely aura. The floor-to-ceiling tv unit enhances the forms of the ceiling while the linear quality of the unit resists it from dominating the homely essence of the living room. The repetitive use of earthy hues in the console and side table creates a dialogue with the muted hues of the sofa however the play of form brings the element of fun into the space.
Respecting the architectural vision the interior space is designed to create an undisputed dialogue with nature in the exterior realm, in order to enhance the quality of living for the residence.
