Terrazzo Lounge Project

For this project we were given a completely blank canvas in which we could infuse the Mundist ethos. An architectural marvel in itself, the house, by Ali Alam, is finished with beautiful white chipped terrazzo floors which give it a unique character and set it in a league of its own.

We wanted the main feature, the stunning floor, to stand out against the richer neutral tones and darker stained woods. The overall feel of the space was kept boho chic with a hint of old school glam and a dash of playfulness with the exploration and coming together of various materials and textures. Fluffy cushions with crochet detailing contrasted with a pop of bright, graphic, cushions highlighted the use of varying textiles, whileshapes and forms came together seamlessly in the profile of the desk, the way the arms of the chair arch around the back and sides and the round coffee table with its splayed legs. The colours were purposefully kept neutral whilst maintaining a bold aesthetic in a deep leaf green sofa, mixed with a rich tan and shades of cream to offset the floor with splashes of yellow to add a retro vibe.

The accessories, whether glass, ornaments or old heirloom pieces, and styling of the bookshelf was mindfully thought out and each piece had a space carefully created for it. On a closer look one sees the little details which give the place an eclectic feel; the cane in the tv cabinet, the lines of the wooden panel decorating the wall, the juxtaposition of suede-like fabrics with handloom and a carpet that ties it all in without being too loud.
