Wave House

Wave House designed by Studio Subtractive concludes its architectural narrative with the interplay of inside and outside. The dynamic plot set by the architecture is continued into the interior spaces, with the use of muted hues, fun forms, and constant dialogue with nature. The ground floor lounge for an old couple uses soft tones and natural wooden hues that elevate the spatial quality of the lounging area while aligning with the architectural parameters. The muted hues of the sofa and dining chairs are complimented by the fun form of a peanut-shaped coffee table and an elongated oval-shaped dining table. The explorative form of the shelf composed along the teal green sofa adds a hint of playfulness to the otherwise humble quality of the family room. The humble and soothing aura of the space owes to the careful placement of planters on diversified scales ranging from large floor pots to small planters on the shelf, they all tie the space together into a cohesive composition. The first-floor lounge was designed for a young couple thus the space radiates a fun and energetic mood that was established through the contemporary yet unique art collection of the client. This lounge takes a new yet bold direction to enhance the architectural narrative of the residence through the use of large planters, natural textures, and deep colors. The bench placed against the door with a larger terrazzo planter creates an inviting gesture for the entrance. However, the runner rug with hints of teal creates a visual movement directed towards the sitting area, this hue of green is continued into the sitting area. The green upholstery of the sofa and chair, with the natural texture of travertine top for the coffee table and terrazzo top for the console, set along with a larger planter gives the sitting area a very humble and earthen quality. However, a hint of playfulness is added through the experimental form of the unit with its spherical teal green legs and the unique form of the coffee table base. The muted tones tone of the bar stool compliments the plates placed on the kitchen wall.

Under the architectural concept of infusing the internal space with nature both the lounges have their individual attributes which urged us to approach them in different ways. The ground-floor lounge presents itself as a humble and family area while the first-floor lounge is designed as a more expressive space that compliments all the artwork placed on the parameters of the lounge.
